You may have a few questions before joining an online space.

Below are some simple answers to help you understand how the space works and what to expect.

Who is this space for?

The Inner Café is for those who value thoughtful conversation and quiet connection. It may resonate with people who find themselves reflecting often, noticing the details in conversations or simply wanting space where things can be shared more openly. You don't need to have anything prepared - just a willingness to be present in a shared space.

What is the purpose of The Inner Café?

The purpose of The Inner Café is to bring people together through real-time conversation. It was created as a space where people can talk more openly about their thoughts, perspectives and topics that don't always come up in everyday conversations.

What kind of connections might I experience?

Each conversation space brings together different people, so every experience is unique. You may find moments of familiarity in what others share or simply experience the feeling of being part of a conversation where listening is just as valued as speaking.

What happens in a typical conversation space?

Online conversation spaces take place in small, gently facilitated groups. A topic or prompt may be introduced and participants are invited to share, listen or reflect in their own way. You are not pressured to have your camera on unless you are comfortable to do so. Conversations unfold naturally, without pressure or a fixed outcome. More details on our HOW IT WORKS page.

Is my privacy protected?

Respect for one another's privacy is an important part of the space. Participants are encouraged to keep what is shared within the conversation space confidential. This is also covered in the Personal Responsibility & Assumption of Risk section of our Terms & Conditions page which all of our participants are required to read and sign prior to any online conversation space.  As with any group setting, it is also important to share only what you feel comfortable sharing.

Is this therapy or counselling?

No. The Inner Café is not therapy or counselling. It is a space for conversation, reflection and shared human experience. If you are seeking professional mental health support, it's important to reach out to a qualified professional.

What is the first step to getting involved?

The first step is to book your available date and time (see Pricing for payment details). You may also find weekly topics updates on our social media accounts.

What happens after I book a space?

You get a confirmation email. In that email, you will find a sign up form. This sign up form is mostly to help us facilitate your experience. The conversation will generally be based on the topic/s that have received most votes by the people in your group unless you have chosen to join our weekly topic conversation space. The flow and direction of conversation depend entirely on the group.

Do I have to speak during an online conversation?

Not at all. You are welcome to share if you feel comfortable or simply listen and be present. There is no expectation to speak.

Do I have to share personal information?

No. You are free to share as much or as little as you like. There is no expectation to disclose anything personal.

What can I take from this experience?

There is no set outcome from participating in an online conversation space. You may notice moments of reflection, connection or simply the experience of sharing space with others. What you take from it - if anything - is entirely your own.

For those who don't feel quite comfortable in social settings, you might find this platform useful to practice and boost your confidence, even if just a little.
